About Our Mission
- Addiction Helpline America connects individuals and families with accredited addiction treatment centers nationwide — completely free, confidential, and available 24/7.
- We are not a treatment center — we are an independent referral service that matches callers to programs based on their specific clinical needs, insurance, and location.
- We never accept payment to recommend any specific treatment center — our recommendations are based solely on what is best for each caller.
- Every call is HIPAA-compliant and handled by trained treatment specialists with personal or professional experience in addiction and recovery.
- Our service is free to callers — treatment centers in our network pay a referral fee only if a caller chooses to use their services, not based on our recommendation.
Who We Are
Addiction Helpline America is a free, national addiction treatment referral service dedicated to connecting individuals and families affected by substance use disorder with accredited, evidence-based treatment programs across the United States. We believe that anyone who reaches out for help deserves a compassionate, knowledgeable response — not a sales pitch or a one-size-fits-all answer.
We are not a treatment center. We do not provide clinical services. What we do is bridge the gap between the decision to seek help — often made in a moment of crisis — and the first step into treatment. That gap can be enormous: navigating insurance, finding beds, understanding levels of care, and choosing a program that fits your needs is overwhelming even in the best circumstances. We exist to make that process as easy as possible.
Our helpline is staffed by trained treatment placement specialists who combine clinical knowledge with genuine compassion. Many of our team members have personal experience with addiction or have supported a loved one through recovery. Every call is answered by a real person — never an automated system — every hour of every day.
Our Independence Is Our Value
We do not accept payment to recommend specific treatment centers. Our referrals are based entirely on what is clinically appropriate for each caller — their specific addiction, co-occurring conditions, insurance coverage, location, and personal preferences. If a caller needs a program our network doesn't include, we tell them and help them find one that does. Our reputation depends entirely on the quality of our recommendations.
What We Do
When you call Addiction Helpline America, our specialists provide the following services — all free of charge:
- Clinical assessment: A brief confidential assessment of the nature and severity of the substance use issue, co-occurring conditions, and treatment history to determine the appropriate level of care
- Insurance verification: We contact your insurance company directly to verify your addiction treatment benefits and estimated out-of-pocket costs — in real time, while you're on the call
- Treatment matching: Based on clinical need, insurance coverage, location preference, and program availability, we identify the most appropriate treatment options in our network
- Admission coordination: We facilitate communication between the caller and the treatment center, assist with logistics, and work to get the person admitted as quickly as possible — often the same day
- Family support: We provide guidance to family members and loved ones on intervention approaches, treatment options, and support resources including Nar-Anon, Al-Anon, and CRAFT
Our Treatment Network
Addiction Helpline America works with accredited addiction treatment centers across the United States. Our network includes programs at every level of care:
- Medical detox facilities — for safe, supervised withdrawal management
- Residential / inpatient rehabilitation programs — 28-day, 60-day, and 90-day programs
- Partial hospitalization programs (PHP) — intensive day treatment
- Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) — structured outpatient treatment
- MAT programs — medication-assisted treatment for opioid and alcohol use disorder
- Dual diagnosis programs — integrated treatment for co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders
All programs in our network are licensed by their respective state behavioral health authority and are accredited by The Joint Commission, CARF International, or equivalent accrediting bodies. We do not refer to unaccredited or unlicensed facilities.

Our Commitment to Ethical Practice
The addiction treatment industry has faced serious scrutiny over patient brokering, deceptive marketing, and unethical referral practices. We are committed to ethical, transparent, and patient-centered operations:
- No patient brokering: We do not pay or receive payment based on whether a caller enters a specific treatment program
- No false advertising: We accurately represent what programs offer and do not make promises we cannot keep
- HIPAA compliance: All caller information is protected under federal privacy law and is never shared without explicit consent
- Evidence-based referrals: We match callers to programs based on clinical appropriateness, not financial incentive
- Transparency about funding: Callers are informed that treatment centers pay a referral fee if they choose to use their services
