About This Rehab
We utilize Medication Assisted Treatment with buprenorphine (Suboxone)
It is a now a horribly sad fact that about 100 people die every day in the U.S. from overdoses of opiate pain medications. That amounted to over 37,000 deaths in 2014 from unintentional overdoses. The majority of those affected are young individuals in the prime of their lives. As a result our society suffers losses of hundreds of billions of dollars every year stemming from the loss of production from our work force due to the loss of so many lives. Opiate Addiction has truly become an epidemic in our country.
At The Drug and Alcohol Detox Clinic of South Mississippi, in addition to evaluating our patients for substance abuse and alcohol problems, all of our patients receive a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. The purpose of this is to make certain underlying emotional issues are identified so they can be properly addressed and appropriately treated. This is especially important because many individuals inappropriately take opiates and other drugs to try to treat underlying problems such as depression and anxiety.
People self-medicate by either taking prescription drugs without a prescription, taking street drugs and/or consuming excessive amounts of alcohol in an attempt to alleviate suffering from painful emotions. Once the patient's underlying emotional problems are identified, proper treatment can then begin. In this way, patients find they have an easier time giving up their drugs of choice after they receive effective treatment for their underlying problems. Finally, patients can be much more easily tapered and weaned (utilizing medication assisted treatment with buprenorphine) once the underlying conditions are resolved.
