"At first when I got here at Beaches I was not really focused on what the big picture was and it showed in my attitude and the way I acted towards the staff. After being welcomed by my community that I cherish so much till this day I was able to regain the reason for me coming to treatment in the first place. I have never been to a facility like this and I wasn’t receptive at all. My life has gain so much and I’ve been so educated about myself and my addiction that all I can relate are good things about Beaches. I’ve learned that I was in my own way and that with help and continued self love that there is nothing I can’t accomplish. At this stage in my life I’ve been blessed with unbroken bridges and a family support system that I can count on but the real work is internal. As long as I DO WHAT THE #### I’m supposed to be doing accordingly I’ll benefit immensely. Thank you Beaches for introducing me to myself again. I really love this guy he is awesome."

"If you are seeking help with addiction I strongly recommend the beaches treatment center I was nervous about coming but once I got here everyone made me feel welcomed and they have changed my life around completely. From my outlook on life to getting back to being the happy caring person I've always been deep down. I am truly happy I chose this place and got clean through this program. The staff actually cares about you and the community is amazing. Something I could never find elsewhere. I am happy to be sober.& It's all thanks to the help, love and support this program has given me. I wouldn't have had it any other way. I didn't want to stop using but knew I had to and being here for the past 2 months has done nothing but good things for me. Please don't hesitate to call them. They will do any and everything to support you in your tough time with addiction."

"I went to the Beaches Treatment Center on 11/12/20. Nervous and afraid however I wanted something better. First time inpatient and my experience is life changing, I learned so much about myself realized I am stronger than what I thought. Mike and the staff are great. I didn't get a chance to tell them thank you and I would recommend anyone to go and find out. Still sober and thankful for the Beaches."

"I went to The Beaches Treatment Center in September and left with a whole new perspective on life! Every staff member went above and beyond to ensure that I acquired the tools necessary to thrive! Knowing that the staff truly had my best intentions at heart helped me move past dysfunctional thinking and toward self love. To this day, I have contact with my therapist and other clients who have become family! The level of commitment to seeing others succeed is evident through the owner’s (direct) engagement with clients... Mike’s heart is definitely in the right place! Forever grateful for my time spent at The Beaches... I highly recommend this facility!"

"What was truly the most difficult time of my life ended up being one of the best experiences of my life and that is all thanks to The Beaches. Endless thanks to their exceptional staff. This was my first experience at any treatment center and while I had no idea what to expect I never expected to be sad leaving. Everyone was always positive and motivating. From the owner Mike since day one to the therapists to management and every single group facilitator I had the pleasure of meeting. The case manager Emma is absolutely amazing, she went above and beyond for me. The staff was always very accommodating with any concerns I had. Everyone was always positive and motivating. Based on my experience I can say that they are very genuine in their desire to help any and everyone. I only wish I found my way to them sooner."

Levels of Care

Intensive Outpatient:

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

24-Hour Clinical Care:

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

Aftercare Support:

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Partial Hospitalization Program:

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

Treatment Focus

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Dual Diagnosis:

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid Addiction:

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance Abuse:

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Therapy Programs

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Creative Arts Therapy:

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing:

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group Therapy:

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Individual Therapy:

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life Skills:

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition Therapy:

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.
