Levels of Care
Inpatient treatment is often an essential first step in your recovery from mental illness or addiction. It is the most intensive form of care at Silver Hill, lasting from 3 to 7 days or more depending on symptoms, to help you through a crisis phase of illness that requires a great deal of management.
The Acute Care unit treats patients with psychiatric illnesses in a crisis stage. Other units treat substance abuse and co-occurring disorders that have reached a crisis stage. Together these units are unsurpassed for immediate and effective care among top inpatient mental health facilities.
Transitional Living Care
If your symptoms are stable, and/or you have completed the Inpatient program at Silver Hill, you may continue treatment on an extended basis in one of our on-campus Transitional Living Programs (TLP) for adults or adolescents. You benefit from the highly structured, hospital-based treatment you need at this stage of your illness, while living in a more homelike setting on the beautiful Silver Hill campus.
You will receive a thorough psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis and treatment plan, including pharmacologic treatment as needed. Our broad range of proven therapeutic tools allows for treatment that is comprehensive and customizable. Our clinicians are superbly trained and highly experienced. They will provide you with a greater psychological understanding of your condition, and the behavioral skills to manage it. Silver Hill is among the best mental health facilities you can choose.
The length of stay for most conditions is a minimum of 4 weeks, but you may opt to extend your treatment.
Intensive Outpatient Care
We offer specialized Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) for adolescents and adults who are able to live at home and desire continued substance use treatment and/or psychological treatment to live full and independent lives. Our Intensive Outpatient Programs meet three times a week for six weeks and consist of group therapy sessions led by an expert, licensed clinician. We also partner with you and your outpatient treatment team to provide individualized treatment and aftercare plans.
Adult and adolescent treatment for substance abuse or a psychiatric disorder can be complicated by the presence of one or more additional conditions – called co-occurring or dual diagnoses disorders. For instance, you may be suffering with an addiction but not realize you also have depression. These dual conditions can mask each other, and may contribute to each other’s severity.
As a full-service psychiatric hospital, Silver Hill has the in-house expertise and experience to diagnose and treat your co-occurring disorder, no matter how complex. We treat these multiple conditions simultaneously, because co-occurring disorders feed on and interact with each other. Neither can afford to be ignored in favor of treating the other. Treating two conditions consecutively – as other institutions often do – can result in neither condition being successfully addressed.
Most, if not all, of the conditions treated at Silver Hill can co-occur with other conditions. Our consultative, team approach to treatment means that we can pair the appropriate experts from across specialties with patients with co-occurring disorders. This way you get the best possible coordinated treatment no matter what combination of conditions or stages of illness may be occurring. Silver Hill ranks among the top rated dual diagnosis treatment centers.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) has earned its place as a foundational therapy at Silver Hill because of its proven effectiveness here over many years, and in many stringent research trials.
DBT is a type of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy developed by renowned psychologist, Marsha Linehan in the 1980’s. Although originally developed to treat chronically suicidal individuals with borderline personality disorder, research has shown DBT is also effective for a variety of other mental health disorders.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy that helps you identify problematic thought patterns and better understand how those thoughts affect your feelings and behaviors. It was developed in the 1960’s by a psychiatrist, Dr. Aaron Beck. Today, Silver Hill is one of the top CBT treatment centers. We use this evidence-based therapy in groups, to help manage a variety of mental illnesses including substance abuse and psychotic disorders.
