Buprenorphine is a prescription drug ( brand name Subutex, among others), which falls under a class of medications known as mixed opioid agonist-antagonists. It is used as a replacement for other opiates that someone is addicted to. So, Buprenorphine detox has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat opioid addiction. Buprenorphine detox works by attaching itself to the brain's receptors, which cause the general feeling of calmness and euphoria. It then blocks the effects of other opiates leading to a decrease of cravings.
Any medication capable of affecting the mind, emotions, and behavior. Some medications such as lithium, which may be used to treat depression, are psychotropic. These medications include mood stabilizers, antidepressants, anti-ADHD drugs, and anti-anxiety medications.
Vivitrol is an injectable Naltrexone drug used to treat alcohol and opioid addiction. It mainly acts by blocking the opioid receptors leading to lesser pain relief or feel-good feelings that are usually associated with opioid addiction. Vivitrol has zero psychoactive properties as such its use never leads to dependence. It is commonly used alongside several other therapy practices to help an addict to overcome opioid addiction or alcohol. Before starting VIVITROL, you must be opioid-free for at least 7-10 days to avoid sudden opioid withdrawal symptoms.
Naltrexone is an opioid antagonist. It works by blocking the action of opioids in the body. It is not sedating or addictive. It doesn't result to physical dependence. Unfortunately, it has been reported that patients often have trouble keeping up with the treatment using altrexone. Because of non-compliances, its usage has become less effective. Naltrexone injectable long-term drug received FDA approval in 2010. Its use has become quite popular since the approval. It is only injected monthly, eliminating the need to do away with the daily dosages by eliminating the need for daily dosing. Other than medication administered to the patients, behavioral therapies are necessary for heroin treatment. A combination of both behavioral therapies and medication often produce positive results.
Levels of Care
Medically Supervised Detox
At Miramar Recovery, we know how important it is to detox from a drugs and alcohol as safely and as comfortably as possible. Our detox facilities in Newport Beach and Costa Mesa are capable of handling anything that may arise during a medical detox. Miramar’s clinical staff has years of experience in helping people deal with the uncertainty of the withdrawal process. With this experience comes the expertise of knowing how different drugs can interact and what to expect during the detox process.
During a detoxification process our clients are supported comprehensively. This means 24/7 care, psychiatric evaluations, and constant medical supervision.
Miramar specializes in providing the utmost comfort for those who wish to complete their detox from their drug of choice in a safe, secure setting. Our facility provides compassion, expertise, and individual attention. We ensure that the first step in your to recovery is one of ease and success.
Unlike outpatient treatment, a residential or inpatient treatment program offers 24-hour care. At Miramar Recovery, you’ll live in a facility with other people in recovery under the guidance of our experienced staff of rehabilitation professionals. This type of care allows you to get help immediately whenever you need it rather than having to wait for an appointment. Residential treatment ensures that you’re under the watchful eye of medical doctors, therapists, and addiction specialists. The cost of residential rehab is higher than other forms of treatment. But if your addiction to drugs or alcohol is severe, this cost is well worth it. If you have health insurance, it could cover all or some of the costs associated with residential treatment.
You’ve probably heard of celebrities going in for treatment at rehab centers. In most of these cases, this is inpatient addiction treatment, where they receive around-the-clock supervision during detox and early recovery.
Outpatient addiction treatment is similar, but you don’t live at the treatment facility full time. While you still get many of the same services, you’ll still live at home. During the day, or after work, people in an outpatient program come into the facility for several hours to receive treatment and medications.
This is a very viable option for those who come to Miramar and need assistance, but don’t necessarily need around-the-clock care.
Each of our clients receives a minimum of 2-3 individual therapy sessions each week, during their treatment period. In these sessions, the underlying, unresolved issues that so commonly drive addiction and co-occurring issues are actually addressed and resolved, thus allowing the client to fully heal and avoid future relapse. It is a miraculously freeing and healing process!
Our clients also participate in a minimum of 2-3 small group therapy sessions each day, wherein they further their therapeutic journey. These therapeutically motivational, educational sessions are powerful and productive.
Each of our client may undergo an initial nutritional evaluation, by our registered dietitian, as well as follow up sessions, to insure that our clients understand and enjoy proper nutritional habits. We have two exceptionally talented chefs, who prepare clean, nutritious, and appealing meals for our clients.
Finally, we also utilize a massage therapist, acupuncturist, activities therapist, and other adjunct treatment providers to aid in the healing process of those with co-occurring issues.
Addiction Relapse Prevention
Drug and alcohol relapse prevention plans often involve people connected to the addict, including family, sponsors, counselors, among others.A supportive family often makes all the difference between recovery and relapse.Ultimately, full recovery is the addict’s responsibility, but family members who seek their own counseling or who attend 12-step groups such as Alcoholics-Anonymous (for friends and family members of problem drinkers) can also learn the best way to help the addict.
When formulating a drug and alcohol relapse prevention plan, it is not enough to simply identify possible relapse “triggers.” The plan also needs to address support opportunities, such as counseling, 12-Step groups, outpatient programs, among others.
The rate of success with a seasoned, effective interventionist is over 90%. When uneducated family or friends attempt an intervention, without professional direction and assistance, the success rate is less than 10%. The interventionist’s role in the addict’s healing process does not end when the addict is admitted into a treatment program. The interventionist remains a vital source for support from the beginning of treatment to completion, and often beyond. They are always available to assist, whenever needed.
Miramar Addiction Treatment Center affiliates with and endorses a few proven interventionists of the highest caliber. We gladly assist in connecting families and friends of prospective clients with an interventionist. We understand how critical it is to achieve success the first time.
Alcoholism and drug addiction are commonly referred to as “family diseases” because of their profoundly negative effect on the entire family. Family members and loved ones struggle to help and support the addict while witnessing their loved one continue down the path of self-destruction. This is often a devastating process.
Feelings of helplessness, despair, anxiety, and even anger about the damage that addiction has caused are common and justified.
Often substance abuse severely damages or even completely severs family and other personal relationships. The involvement, understanding, and support of the family and loved ones for the person abusing alcohol or drugs is critical to lasting healing.
Sadly, the substance abuser often remains isolated and alone, even after he or she has sought help and treatment. Unresolved familial issues can prolong the cycle of addiction and lead to relapse.
A major component of every quality treatment program is the reparation of damaged or severed relationships. Our clinicians will work with the addict and the family members to restore functional and loving bonds and associations.
This is accomplished through family education and counseling, both with the substance abuser and without.
Non-12 Step Drug & Alcohol Addiction Treatment
Miramar Treatment Center, a renowned clinic located in Laguna Beach, California, offers a Non 12 Step addiction treatment plan, which is tailored to each individual client’s unique needs.
Sometimes a more holistic environment is preferred, one that promotes vitamins and herbs. This type of treatment helps to regulate the body as we work to replace the synthetic high created by drugs. A natural high that the body receives when the endorphins are activated by exercise is also a great replacement for the endorphin dump provided by drug and alcohol abuse. In cases of severe withdrawal symptoms, a more traditional center offering medical treatment may be more appropriate than a holistic center. There are also some other types of Non 12 Step recovery programs in California, such as centers that have a luxury-style environment, simulating a resort-like atmosphere.
A good client to staff ratio is important at Miramar Recovery. Our professionals include physicians, psychiatrist and psychologists, a spiritual counselor, a nutritionist, and clinical therapists. Having had past addictions themselves, some of our staff can relate to the patients on a more personal level. Our team includes other services such as acupuncture, culinary lessons, outdoor activities, and massage. The Miramar Recovery facility has a healthy and comfortable experience that our clients appreciate at our serene, coastal retreat. Come restore yourself, at one of California’s best Non 12 Step rehabs.
