: Counselors are specially trained to provide screening and assessment services to severely emotionally disturbed children and adolescents that are at risk of a psychiatric hospitalization. Working with the family, the court system, the Department of Children and Family Services (when appropriate), and the community social service agencies. SASS workers develop supportive crises service plans to keep these children out of psychiatric facilities or facilitate hospitalization when that level of care is needed. The goal of the program is to develop a family and social structure to stabilize the symptoms, eliminate the crisis, and avoid further crisis and/or hospitalization.
